Galaxy S27 Ultra Dummy Unit Leaks as S27 Pro Misses Out on the Best Chip

A new leak has given the first physical look at the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra, while a separate report has confirmed which chip the S27 Pro will skip.

A dummy unit based on earlier CAD renders has surfaced online. It shows a redesigned camera island on the back. Alongside this, listings in an import-export database confirm that only the S27 Ultra will get Qualcomm new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip. The S27 Pro gets the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 instead.

What the Dummy Unit Shows

The source behind the original CAD renders built a dummy unit and placed it next to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the Apple iPhone 18 Pro, and the Google Pixel 11 Pro.

A dummy unit has no screen, battery, or working parts inside. It is used to check size and shape only. Still, it gives a real sense of how the phone will look and feel in hand.

The dimensions are close to last years model. The S27 Ultra dummy measures 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97 mm, against 163.6 x 78.1 x 7.9 mm on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. That is barely a difference you would notice.

The camera setup is the main change. The back now has a horizontal camera bar instead of last years layout, similar in style to the Raised Plateau look Apple used on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Tom Guide reports that the design appears to drop the 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, though it is not yet clear what this means for the camera hardware itself.

The new design leaves room for magnets, which could allow proper MagSafe-style and Qi2 wireless charging. Toms Guide notes it could not spot these magnets on the dummy unit or the CAD files, so this detail is not confirmed yet.

One practical result of the redesign: cases made for the Galaxy S26 Ultra will not fit the S27 Ultra, even though the camera sensors sit in roughly the same spot.

S27 Pro Misses the Top Chip

A separate report looked at listings for all four Galaxy S27 models in the NBD import-export database. These are the European model numbers.

  • Galaxy S27 and S27+: Exynos 2700 chip, 6.3-inch and 6.7-inch screens
  • Galaxy S27 Pro: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, 6.5-inch screen
  • Galaxy S27 Ultra: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, 6.9-inch screen
  • All four models are listed with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage as the base option.

This means only the Ultra model gets the newest, most powerful chip. The Extreme Gen 6 chip supports 8K video recording at 60 frames per second. The regular Elite Gen 6 chip in the Pro model is capped at 30fps. Both chips use a 2nm manufacturing process, so the gap is mainly in top-end graphics and video power, not everyday use.

This chipset split applies to European units for now. Other regions may get different chips, so this is not yet confirmed worldwide.
